About the Artist

Howard VanBuren works and teaches watercolor out of his home studio in Cheshire, NY and has been selling his work in our gift shop for over 8 years. He recently had an exhibit of original watercolor paintings, studies and sketches here at The Cheshire Union entitled: "Barns from My Travels in New York State".
"Being the son of an artist helped me appreciate the world of art and I began drawing and painting when I was a child of about 5 years old. My dad had an art studio in our home where he let me sit and watch him "make art". Dad was a professional artist with a degree in Graphic Design from Farmingdale, NY. He worked in the graphic art department for the General Electric Company. My dads studio is where it all started."

After graduating with a BA in Biology from SUNY Oswego, Howard took a little time away from art, pursued a job as a microbiologist in the dairy industry and started a family.
"As my kids grew I began painting and selling house portraits to save money for their future college costs. I continued to get more commissions by word of mouth and joined a small gallery in town."

Today, Howard has been doing watercolor paintings and house portraits for more than 30 yrs. He is a Signature Member of the Central NY Watercolor Society, a member of the Ontario County Arts Council and an associate member of several national watercolor societies.
